If your self-betterment plan centers around the purchasing of goods and services to “invest in your improvement” it’s not a self-betterment plan it’s a free advertisement. corporations don’t even have to do the heavy work at this point, the rhetoric of capitalism is so embedded into our brains that most of us can only conceive of our growth in terms of consumption anymore. it’s the equivalent of a dove commercial masquerading as feminine empowerment except you’re the one who wrote it and you’re the one who fell for it.
